Dragon has an impressive vocabulary. The average person will probably struggle to use 30% of the words in the vocabulary over a lifetime. While the vocabulary has hundreds of thousands of words you may never use, it does try to cater for the eventuality that you will. Some medical terminology that’s difficult to pronounce, 101 Dalamations in the correct format… if you start scrolling down you’ll take some time to get through it. Start scrolling up and you’ll find a number of strange punctuation symbols.

The bottom line is that it’s massive and comprehensive. While the makers of Dragon have tried to cover everything, it’s still impossible. With over 150 countries around the world each with their own government, town names, districts, suburbs and localised terms and surnames… there are bound to be some holes in Dragon’s vocabulary.

As you start using the software, you’ll begin to notice that as excellent as it is out-of-the-box in terms of accuracy, there’s still work to be done. Dragon isn’t any ordinary bit of software. It’s constantly evolving as you use it, learning from you and trying to make better educated guesses based on your past usage. Interacting with the human voice, it doesn’t understand English, so part of the quest for 100% accuracy is to correct it when it makes mistakes.

It’s actually a good idea to pre-empt mistakes. You can help Dragon get better at recognising your words by building your custom vocabulary or making editing changes to your vocabulary in order to avoid problem words. This fine-tuning is what makes our training so critical. A stitch in time saves nine has never been so pertinent. You can add custom entries manually or discover how to speed up the process. HCD is just an email away, so why not get in touch so that we can help you fine tune that vocabulary, clear out the rubbish and build it so that you don’t have to waste valuable time correcting or typing in corrections.
