“Oh no, my Dragon serial number isn’t allowing me to activate my software.”

While you may have said something along the lines of this, you should count your lucky stars if you haven’t had to utter anything at all.

Dragon is an amazing productivity tool. So amazing that when it stops working some people feel like they can’t go back to the mechanical process known as typing. Sure, it’s easy enough to press a few buttons to say “thanks for the mail” or “get back to you soon” but it’s a whole different thing when you need to create paragraphs when you’re used to using Dragon.

Dragon’s software license is per user but the people at Nuance have been kind enough to allow users to install the software across up to two machines. The software isn’t inexpensive, so it’s a real plus to be able to have Dragon installed on your desktop and your laptop if that’s how you roll.

Having said that, we’ve noticed that the software activations can become an issue. If you don’t uninstall correctly, being connected to the Internet and having your anti-virus disabled, there’s a good chance your activation limit won’t be updated with Nuance’s servers.

This becomes a problem when you’ve installed too many times and the software informs you that you’ve reached your activation limit. At this point, if you have installed too many times and not uninstalled properly, you could be high and dry with just 5 of the standard pre-activation launches at your disposal.

These launches can be handy in giving you a few days and possibly even weeks if you can stretch it that long to get back on the horse… or Dragon in this case. There is a process to follow in this instance, which can be quite tricky. Much trickier than ensuring you’ve entered the letter O and not the number 0 in the activation serial number or key code.

However, the point is that it can be done and you can get back to using Dragon without being forced to buy another license.
