Dragon tries to enable users to be able to dictate in virtually any text field. In order to do this, it relies on what’s called the Dictation Box, a pop-up window that enables users to dictate virtually anywhere. The Dictation Box is surprisingly useful and some would argue that it’s the way Dragon should be used across the board based on its ability to bypass any incompatibilities.
Besides web browsers, the Dictation Box is set to open automatically in unsupported applications and environments where you speak and Dragon doesn’t have Full Text Control. You can disable this feature by clicking the gear icon and selecting Settings>Options if necessary. In this instance, it may be easier to call up the Dictation Box from the Tools dropdown menu on the Dragonbar, pressing Ctrl+Shift+D or saying “Open Dictation Box”.
The pop-up window will appear and you can dictate text directly into the window as you would in any application’s text field. You can also edit or correct dictation within this window. When you’re happy with the text in the window, click ‘Transfer’ to basically perform a glorified copy and paste into the application hovering behind the Dictation Box. If the Dictation Box has popped up unexpectedly, which it tends to do when you haven’t selected the active window, you can click Cancel or say “Click Cancel”.
Click and drag the title bar to move the Dictation Box or click and drag the lower right corner to resize it. It keeps this size depending on the application you were using when you resized it. If you want to change settings, click the gear icon to see the settings display. Still not sure, get in touch so that we can take a look.
