We always tell clients that just because you can use your voice to control almost every aspect of your computing experience, integrating speech recognition software into your work life, doesn’t have to be an all-in. As with most productivity solutions, the fastest way is generally favoured, which is why it’s important to realise that you can still click your mouse or press a key on your keyboard if it’s quicker and easier in the moment.
We’re not advocating that users abandon everything they’ve come to learn but rather that they incorporate Dragon in a way to enhance their current operations. Dragon’s become synonymous with transcription based on its speed of converting speech to text, however it’s much more than just a pure transcription tool. It’s there to filter into various time-consuming aspects of your general communication and reporting schedule.
Speed up email, messenger and documentation using the software’s ever-ready transcription but also remember you can use voice commands to improve the formatting, navigation and custom autotext to drop boilerplate text in a second. One of the stitch-in-time-saves-nine elements of using Dragon is being able to make quick changes in terms of deletion, navigation and capitalisation. To this end, it’s great to have commands that don’t require 2-3 commands to return the insertion point when you’re trying to keep your train of thought.
For example, if you’re dictating and need to revise the last part of your sentence. Try saying “Resume with…” followed by the last word you want to clear back to. Or, if you need to make a quick capitalisation of a phrase. Pause and say “Capitalise” followed by the word or phrase you want to capitalise. Finally, one of the best in-line commands for dictation purposes is “Delete” followed by the word of phrase you want to clear, which allows you to clear repetition without having to fiddle with navigation commands or the mouse.
As simple as they are, these commands are game-changers when it comes to improving your speed of dictation, especially if you like to review sentences or paragraphs before moving onto the next line or thought.
